Perry was born to actor Laurie Metcalf, and Jeff Perry. Two of her earliest television performances were Jackie Harris on ABC's sitcom Roseanne. Her mother played her role. Perry was forbidden to start acting by her parents until she reached an adulthood stage, because they were concerned about the anxiety it could result in. Perry acknowledged that she was not at ease in the stage during high school. However, she began doing it to meet new people in Northwestern University after switching from Boston University. Perry managed to get minor TV roles in Law & Order: Criminal Intent after she graduated. However, her homesickness brought her back to California again where she began to work in the stage. In 2013 she performed in The Other Place on Broadway with her mother. Perry was in the show with the father of her character Kevin McKidd and Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize winning drama Anna Christie in the year 2015 on The Odyssey Theatre Ensemble, West Los Angeles. Perry appeared in nine episodes of the ABC drama The Family in 2016. In 2017, Perry played a supporting role in ABC's political thriller Scandal in which her father was the main character. In the same year, the actress was selected to play a young model of Mary Cooper (Sheldon Cooper's mother) in Young Sheldon, a spin-off of the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory again as a teen model of the mother's character. The character was assigned by audition despite the fact that she has a family tie with the role.
